Knife Sharpening Service

I use whetstones in my knife sharpening service.  The only time where a machine may be involved is if your blade has seen heavy use or has sustained damage or is a longer or more awkwark blade type such as garden shears.  After the initial repair on the machine, the rest of the blade is sharpened and honed by hand on various grades of stone

Turnaround time will depend on quantity of bookings and when drop-off appointments are arranged for as well as condition of your blade.  Whilst I cannot guarantee a same-day turnaround but we will endeavour keep turnaround times shorter where possible.

Double edged blades (daggers and similar) as well as tools (as opposed to domestic or EDC blades) may be priced differently.

Pricing

Standard sharpening (Blade length)

• £5 blades up to 4″ (10cm)
• £10 blades between 4″-6″ (10cm – 15.5cm)
• £15 blades between 6″-10″ (15.5cm – 25.5cm)
• Above these lengths priced indidually

Serrated knives (Blade length)

• £8 blades up to 4″ (10cm)
• £15 blades between 4″-6″ (10cm – 15.5cm
• £20 blades between 6″-10″ (15.5cm – 25.5cm)

Blades over 10″ will be assessed on a case by case basis. Double edged blades (assuming both edges are the same) will usually* be double the cost

Tools will also be assessed on an individual basis and may be outwith the regular sharpening schedule.  I do not currently sharpen scissors

Repairs or badly used blades may incur additional costs depending on each blade.  A standard sharpening will be given unless otherwise specified

Repair & polishing

Small tip repairs may be repaired under a standard sharpening depending on the severity and size of the break

Larger tip repairs, blade alterations and repairs will be asessed on a blade by blade basis.

Small general repairs can be requested at the time of booking.

Larger repairs and handle alterations/replacments may need booked in as a separate repair & refurbishment job

To get your blades in for my knife sharpening service, please email bookings@glitteringedge.com with number of knives, rough size of the cutting edge (in cm or inches) and whether theyre serrated or not as well as and preferred dates or for a deadline

Once an appointment has been confirmed, when dropping your blades on, please ensure they are wrapped up securely and not just loose in a bag or out in open, uncovered.

Wrapped in newspaper, cloths or similar and in a box or bag is ideal.  If they are not easily accessible and not obvious that they’re blades then thats the aim to consider for transporting them

Prices may be subject to change.  Blades booked in will be honoured at the agreed price at the time of arranging the appointment. Card and cash payments are accepted.  No change can be given for cash payments.
