Sgian Dubh - Scotlands iconic knife

Think of Scotland and you think of rolling hills, haggis, kilts and of course the Sgian Dubh – Scotlands iconic knife!

Each and every one of my sgian dubh are either hand forged or ground from a varierty of different stainless or carbon steel.  Usually from 1095, 26C3 or even from my very own hand forged Whisky Barrel Damascus!

I like to also be able to source my materials from known and traceable sources.  The deer leather, for example, I get from Woodland Tannery in Scotland.  A lot of my wood for grips is reclaimed from furniture makers or sourced locally – or with reputable companies for less common varieties.

The Sgain dubh was historically Scotlands answer to the Every Day Carry (EDC) knife, which could be hidden anywhere on ones person, hence the reason behind the name.  Sgian Dubh “Black (hidden) Knife” was assumed to be named so because it wasnt always worn in your hose, but worn in a variety of different ways – often hidden.

The sgian dubh has in more recent centuries been adapted to more of a ceremonial role and regimentally worn in your kilt sock.

All my sgian dubh are fully hand made by me, Greg, in Scotland using my 15+ years of knowlege.  Made to be used.  Custom orders are open and these can be supplied either sharp or blunt, but are usually sharp by default
